I took a trip to Uzbekistan at the beginning of September 2014.
Many have asked me why and how I had made the choice. Although it was (kind of) by chance (I liked the offer and how it was advertized), I strongly recommend going there. The country is beautiful and the people friendly!
The images are displayed in the order they were taken, so here's the rough itinerary:
Tashkent - Khiva - Bukhara - Samarkand - Tashkent.
At the end you'll see the photo of a bride: we were strolling around the streets of Samarkand at the last night of our stay and we happend to hear music. It was coming from a wedding party. We went to investigate, and the people we so kind as to let us in and partake in the celebrations. The bride is honoring us by moving her head down and forward and covering her face with her veil.
There is a very good site that illustrates the monuments and sights (here), so far be it for me to dwell for too long on them, or to show too many pictures - I have chosen the ones I like best.
For info about the Ambassador's Painting (a wonderful surprise in the ancient Samarkand), please see here.
For the rest, I hope you enjoy the slideshow!
